A Dialogue Between Industry Observers and Practitioners: Where is the Disposable Underwear Industry Heading?
When academic research meets the real market, and when industry observers engage in dialogue with frontline practitioners, a discussion about the "future" quietly unfolds.
In July 2025, the Disposable Underwear Technology Research Center of China Textile Engineering Society was officially established at Xiamen U-Pack New Life Technology Co., Ltd.
- Guidance from cutting-edge academic research
- Genuine feedback from market practice
- Continuous improvement of industry standards
The Textile Engineering Society is both an observer and a promoter of the industry; Xiamen U-Pack is a frontline practitioner rooted in the market and also actively participates in the construction of industry standards. This collision between the two roles brought forth many thought-provoking perspectives.
Enterprises must have both "face" and "substance".
The so-called "face" refers to taking the initiative to assume industry responsibilities from an industry-wide perspective. For example, taking the lead in formulating group standards and filling industry gaps — this reflects an enterprises influence and vision.
Chairman Lin Jian also shared his insights:
At present, the company has continued to layout in this direction, and bamboo fiber fabric will become one of the key materials for future development. It has strong comprehensive advantages in environmental protection, comfort and functional performance.
However, to truly solve the environmental problem of disposable products, there is still a key challenge — degradable materials for elastic bands.
Currently, both pure cotton and bamboo fiber main fabrics can be naturally degraded, but elastic bands remain an environmental shortcoming. To this end, the company is also continuously exploring more environmentally friendly and sustainable alternatives, hoping to promote the upgrading of disposable products towards true green development from the perspective of overall product structure.
How to Create Content That Truly Adds Value to the Industry?
- Excessive "comparison" of antibacterial levels
- Controversial interpretations of sterilization packaging methods
- Various conceptualized and anxiety-driven marketing practices
These trends can easily lead to consumer misunderstandings and trap enterprises in meaningless involution. The truly sustainable path is still to return to science, standards and real needs.
